Getting a message to the right person, right now, is the part of site work that quietly decides everything else. A radio gets you “can I be heard?” — but today’s sites also need the right people, control, a record, and a connection to the rest of the business.
Happy Lab’s Voice Intercom is a private, self-hosted voice platform for field and site teams. It runs on Android and in any browser, ships with a full admin console, and lives on your own server — so your voice and data never leave your building.
What it covers
| Area | What you get |
|---|---|
| 📱 Android app | Press-and-hold push-to-talk or full-duplex; runs as a background service so calls arrive with the screen locked; built for PDAs, tablets and phones |
| 💻 Browser client | Zero-install, responsive, works on any operating system; member list, online status and active speaker in one view |
| 🛠️ Admin console | Manage rooms, users, groups, broadcasts and logs; assign permissions; listen in silently on a room |
| 🏠 Rooms | One workshop, one channel: intercom (push-to-talk), open (full-duplex) and private (password) modes |
| 📢 Broadcast | One-tap announcements to everyone or a chosen area |
| 📜 Logs | A complete, searchable record of admin operations and user behaviour |
How it fits different sites
| Site | How it helps |
|---|---|
| 🏭 Manufacturing | Lines, assembly, QA and maintenance each get a room; team leads broadcast once and reach everyone |
| 📦 Warehousing & logistics | Goods-in, picking and storage as separate rooms; operators talk hands-free on a PDA; dispatch watches the browser client on a big screen |
| 🛒 Retail | Group by store or region and reach every store with a single broadcast; staff talk without leaving the shop floor |
| 🔧 Inspection & maintenance | Inspectors talk while they walk; admins listen in silently; every call leaves a log |
Self-hosted, small footprint
The platform runs on your own server, and the relay architecture keeps it light — the service idles at tens of megabytes and each connection costs only a few more.
| Scale | Suggested server | Bandwidth |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 50 users | 2 vCPU / 2–4 GB RAM | ~10 Mbps |
| 50–200 users | 4 vCPU / 4–8 GB RAM | 20–50 Mbps |
| 200+ users / with recording | 8+ vCPU / 8–16 GB RAM | Sized to concurrency |
Output is Linux only (x86_64 / arm64), delivered as a tar bundle with a deployment guide or via an AI Skill that installs and verifies automatically.
